RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Brenna Hahn scored a game-high 23 points as California Baptist fell, 88-82, to No. 25 The Master's in a Thursday night Golden State Athletic Conference contest.
It was the second straight conference loss at home for the Lancers (11-6, 3-4 GSAC) who have lost three of their last four. Despite shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor, CBU couldn't stop the Mustangs (9-6, 4-2 GSAC) from 31-of-55 shooting (56.4 percent) from the floor and 9-of-19 from downtown.
The Master's abused CBU on the inside and with its bench. The Mustangs outscored the Lancers 38-24 in the paint and 35-12 from the bench. The Mustangs also missed just one free throw, going 17-for-18 from the charity stripe.
Hahn was 8-of-18 from the field and drained a pair of treys while Kendra Morris was close behind with 20 points. Hahn also tied for the team-high with five rebounds. Morris was 5-for-8 from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line.
Nicole Davis and Jeanine Deno also scored in double figures as Davis notched 13 points while Deno scored 10.
Neither team led by more than 10 points the entire game and there were nine ties in the first half alone. The Mustangs held their biggest lead of the half at 21-16 before Morris started to heat up. The junior hit a lay up and then added three straight free throws to tie at 21. After TMC nailed a 3-pointer, Morris hit another layup to get CBU within one at 24-23. Hahn then tied it at 24 and gave CBU its first lead in over 10 minutes with a layup to go up 26-24.
The Mustangs answered again and eventually held a 36-33 lead, with 2:38 left in the half, when CBU closed out the first with an 8-3 run to take a 41-39 lead at intermission. The Lancers were then able to jump out to their biggest lead of the game twice at 51-45 and 53-47, but The Master's answered with a 10-0 run and never relinquished the lead.
CBU does have another shot to break the home losing skid when it hosts Point Loma Nazarene, Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m.
