RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Megan Sester put together a breakthrough stretch for California Baptist University and was named the Lancers' first-ever Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week as a result on Monday morning.
Sester, a true freshman, led the entire WAC with 5.25 points and 4.92 kills per set averages over three matches last week. She totaled 59 kills, seven blocks and nine digs overall, as CBU went 2-1 in the matches and made history in doing so.
The Lancers defeated cross-town opponent UC Riverside in five sets in front of a record-breaking crowd of 2,768 in the CBU Events Center on Tuesday. Sester set a new career-high for herself with 21 kills against the Highlanders, and then tallied 17 kills in a sweep of Chicago State on Thursday. She then matched her career high of 21 kills in four sets against Kansas City on Saturday.
While Sester is the first Lancer to be named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week, she is the second to earn a weekly honor in the conference, as Nicole Abreu was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3.
CBU hosts Utah Valley for its Senior Day match and final home match of the regular season on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Lancers are 19-6 overall and lead the WAC with a 9-3 league record, with four conference matches left. One more win would secure CBU its fourth 20-win season in a row and 19th all time.
