The Lancer Way is a platform provided by California Baptist University's Athletic Department that allows student-athletes to share their stories. All of the words are their own.

There were two things I knew for sure.
For starters, I love people, and secondly, I love water polo.
Outside of those two things, I wasn't really sure what my future would look like. I sure hoped that somehow the two could align in college.
That was my junior year in high school when everyone and their mom knew exactly what they would major in college, what their back-up doctorate degree would be, and the name of their fourth child.
To say I felt unprepared was an understatement. But I knew that God would take these desires of my heart and create a perfect future for me.
And that He did.

I realized how perfectly nursing aligned with loving people (and my tough stomach). Helping someone at their most vulnerable is such a special vocation to have.
I took anatomy to make sure I liked the medical sciences, and fell in love with how intricately God designed the human anatomy.
So the next challenge was to find a college that would allow me to major in nursing and play water polo… and preferably was a Christian college… preferably in California.
Easier said than done.
Actually, it wasn't too difficult because God funneled my view to one school.
You guessed it; good ol' CBU was the only school with coaches willing to work with my nursing schedule.
My coaches here at CBU are not only willing to work with my crazy schedule, but also are there to encourage me on my toughest days and push me to be my very best.

I even was able to travel to Indonesia on an International Service Projects (ISP) trip, another desire of my heart that CBU fulfilled.
Going to a Christian college has been the best experience for me, from going to Tribe to leading Bible studies to having mentors from spiritual life – I have seen so much growth in my walk with Christ.
The people I'm surrounded by push me to think in new ways, love deeper, and be more intentional with my time, words, and actions.
So yeah, God gave me more than the desires of my heart – He mapped out the perfect route to allow me to play the sport I love with supportive teammates and friends while also learning to love people in another way through nursing school.

Sometimes there aren't enough hours in the day, but the people around me carry me through it – from my roommates heating up oatmeal and bringing it to chapel when I come straight from class and to my angel classmates sending me their study guide to help me study for the exam the next day.
Sometimes I show up to practice completely drained, but my teammates pick me right up. I find myself forgetting all about the long day and notice our laughter echoing onto the pool deck instead.
Yes, some days feel impossible, but, man, I wouldn't change a second of it.
