CBU Announces Over $20 Million Phase of Master Facilities Plan
8/21/2022
California Baptist University Athletics is investing over $20 million in the current phase of capital projects and facility enhancements, with several projects that began earlier this year wrapping up in time for the 2022-23 season. In all, CBU has invested over $100 million in athletic-related projects over the last decade.
“It’s been tremendous to see the work going on around campus this offseason. CBU is an institution committed to continually improving, as evidenced by all of the construction that’s taken place this year,” Director of Athletics Tyler Mariucci said. “The determination of our campus leadership, staff and community of support to provide a first-class student-athlete experience is transformative and will allow for us to compete for Division I conference championships.”
This fall brings the debut of the CBU Soccer Stadium, while improvements were made at CBU’s baseball and softball fields, Totman and Funk Stadium, this past spring. Additionally, a new baseball and softball clubhouse will soon be under construction. The CBU Events Center, Van Dyne Gym and Lancer Aquatics Center have had a number of improvements made recently, as well.
NEW BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL CLUBHOUSE
The baseball and softball programs will move into a new 14,200 square foot clubhouse soon to break ground inside the Lancers Outdoor Athletic Complex. The facility, expected to be completed by Summer 2024, will be strategically located between both Totman and Funk Stadiums, featuring amenities such as locker rooms, sports medicine and physical therapy space, offices for the coaching staffs and a conference room. Additionally, gameday concessions will be upgraded to help enhance the fan experience with improved food and beverage options for baseball, softball and soccer home games. The facility will also feature balconies overlooking both fields, providing a unique perspective with great views.

NEW SOCCER STADIUM AND PRACTICE FIELD
The recently constructed CBU Soccer Stadium will open for the 2022 season and features a newly laid pitch that is a hybrid bermuda bandera sod. The stadium is fully wired for broadcast and video purposes and features a large open-air press box with a cover. The facility also includes a new Daktronics LED scoreboard and a brand new sound system.
The total capacity of the stadium will hold over 500 fans in the stands along with a berm and standing room only space to accommodate well over 1,000 spectators. Home on-campus night games are a reality for the first time in school history as the field is also set with a new Musco LED lighting system. Immediately behind the CBU Soccer Stadium is also a new soccer practice field.

ADDITIONAL UPGRADES AT TOTMAN AND FUNK STADIUMS
Both Totman and Funk Stadium already received upgrades leading up to and during the 2022 season, with the installation of videoboards, new padding on the outfield walls and facility signage celebrating past success of the programs. Baseball introduced a new 18' x 32' Daktronics videoboard with fully integrated live in-game stats and pitch speed, while softball received a new 11' x 19', 281-trillion color Daktronics videoboard. Funk Stadium will also be turfed by AstroTurf this summer in time for the 2023 softball campaign.

The hallway to the basketball coaches’ offices were updated as it showcases team gear issued by Adidas.
