RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? California Baptist tied the school record for most wins to start a season with an 85-68 win over Cal State L.A., Friday, at Van Dyne Gymnasium. The Lancers (5-0) tied the 2004-05 team and the 1982-83 team for the best start in school history.

Nicole Davis led the way for CBU as she had a game-high 24 points as the Golden Eagles (0-2) had trouble keeping Davis in front of them all night. Romeka Randolph emerged for the first time this year scoring 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Jeanine Deno and Erin Greenberg were also in double figures as Deno scored 16 and Greenberg scored 15. Greenberg was 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

The Lancers did their damage for the second straight game at the charity stripe hitting 18 of their 24 attempts. CBU also forced 22 CSULA turnovers.

The lead changed hands five times in the opening half, but the Lancers never fell behind by more than two points. The last tie came at 33-33, but CBU finished the half leading 42-39. The Lancers started to break the game open with a 9-1 run, capped by a Randolph free throw, to take a 57-44 lead.

The Lancers led 77-62 with 4:18 left when it slammed the door shut with a 5-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 85-62 with just a minute remaining.

CBU will now host No. 2 Vanguard, Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m. inside Van Dyne Gymnasium.
