DENO GETS HOT HAND
RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Jeanine Deno let the nets up Wednesday hitting six treys to lead California Baptist to an 84-61 win over Bethany. The junior looked to be on track to set the single-game record hitting five threes in the first half alone. The record still stands at eight held by three different Lancers.
Deno led the Lancers (7-2) with season-high 23 points going 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. Jonessa Jackson led all scorers with 25 for the Bruins (1-9). Nicole Davis recorded a double-double scoring 10 points and dishing out 12 assists. Erin Greenberg also had a hot hand hitting 4-of-7 from outside and was 7-of-11 from the field. She finished the night with 18 points. Bryana Williams was in double figures as she picked up 10 boards.
CBU hit 52.9 percent from the field (27-for-51) and drained 44.4 percent from three-point range (12-of-27). The Lancers out rebounded the Bruins 45-35 and held Bethany to just 35.3 percent from the field.
Once Greenberg broke the only tie of the game (2-2) with a trey, CBU was off and running. The Lancers led 17-9 in the first half and used a 20-2 run to take a 37-11 lead. It was in that stretch that Deno it all five of her first-half treys. Greenberg was also 3-for-5 from beyond the arc scoring 13 in the first half. The Lancers led 42-18 at the half.
CBU took its lead at 30, at 52-22, on Deno's sixth and final three with 16:37 left, but she came up short on two other attempts later in the half. The Lancers cruised from there for the win.
The win over the Bruins closes out 2007 on a two-game spurt that the Lancers will carry into 2008 when they open the new year at Fresno Pacific, Jan. 2. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m..
