EIGHT STRAIGHT IN THE POOL
RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Josh Harris and Ryan Steiger both notched back-to-back hat tricks as California Baptist downed Long Beach State City College, 12-4, Fresno Pacific 18-6, Friday at the Lancer Invitational. The Lancers (10-6) have won eight straight games since losing to Pepperdine in the Inland Empire Classic, Sept. 9.
“These guys are playing like men right now,” said CBU head coach Rick Rowland. “I think the first two week set the foundation of how we are playing right now. All the way up and down the pool we are looking good. We are playing pretty balanced water polo and both ends.”
CBU took a 5-2 lead in the first quarter against LBCC and never looked back. Both Harris and Ryan Steiger scored a pair of goals each while Bills added one in the opening quarter. Bills added his other two in the second. Alan Ogden added another goal to give the Lancers an 8-3 lead at the half.
CBU allowed just one goal in the second half and added four more. Ogden, Ryan Steiger and Aaron Steiger all scored in the third with Harris scoring his third goal in the fourth quarter.
Jon Miller racked up 10 saves in the win.
Against Fresno Pacific the Lancers stormed out to a 10-4 lead in the first half and outscored the Sunbirds 8-2 in the second half.
Both Harris and Ryan Steiger scored a pair of goals in the first quarter while Ogden and Morgan both scored a single goal as well. Harris, Ogden, and both Steigers score a single goal in the second quarter.
In the second half Jeff Woolstenhulme scored two goals and Ogden added another goal before Morgan, Louis Talamantes, Aaron Steiger, Brett Landfield and Brad Vincent all had single goals in the fourth quarter.
Miller and Adam Bowman combined for seven saves as Miller notched three and Bowman four.
“We are playing incredible defense right now and that starts with Jon,” said Rowland. “He is the spine of our team. Ryan then grabbed 10 steals tonight and is on his way to breaking the school record.”
CBU returns to action tomorrow against Concordia at 9 a.m. and then Chaffey at 4:30 p.m. at the Lancer Invitational.
