THIRD PLACE AT USAFA
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? California Baptist captured third place at the USAFA East Meets West Tournament by defeating California Lutheran for the second time in as many days. The Lancers (15-8) capped the tournament off, Sunday, with a 13-8 win over the Kingsmen after they fell to No. 16 Air Force 18-12 in the first game of the day.
The Lancers took a 6-2 lead at the half as the defense shut down CLU early and then held off the Kingsmen in the third quarter as Cal Lutheran scored four goals to pull within two at 8-6, but the Lancers closed out the game and tournament with five goals in the final quarter.
Ryan Steiger led the way with four goals while Jason Bills scored three. Chris Morgan scored two goals and Alex Shorts, Brad Vincent, Aaron Steiger and David Graves all scored a goal each. Jon Miller recorded eight saves.
CBU came out quick taking a 5-2 lead in the first quarter on Air Force, but the Falcons flipped the switch in the second quarter scoring seven goals while holding the Lancers to one. Air Force held a 9-6 lead at the half and pushed it to 14-9 by the end of third quarter and put the game away in the four out scoring CBU 4-3.
Morgan and Ryan Steiger each had a hat trick while Aaron Steiger scored a pair of goals. Bills, Jeff Woolstenhulme, Alan Ogden and Vincent all scored single goals against the Falcons. Miller recorded 14 saves.
David Graves and Aaron Steiger were both named to the six-man all-tournament team.
CBU returns back to the Lancer Aquatic Center Thursday when it hosts Iona at 4 p.m.
