EYE OF THE TIGER
STOCKTON, Calif. ? California Baptist was on their way to an upset of No. 16 Pacific, but a third-quarter barrage by the Tigers squelched any momentum the Lancers had in a 10-9 loss.
The Lancers (23-10) jumped out to a 5-3 lead at the half after outscoring Pacific 2-1 in the first and 3-2 in the second, but the Tigers woke up in the second half scoring the first five goals in the midst of a 7-1 run to take a 10-6 lead.
Pacific blanked CBU in the third and did just enough to pull-off the one-goal win. Aaron Steiger, Chris Morgan and Alan Ogden all scored a pair of goals. Steiger and Morgan each added an assist while Steiger recorded five steals and Morgan notched four.
Jeff Woolstenhulme, Tommy Hunter and Chris Toy all scored single goals. Toy also recorded three steals. Zach Bowman grabbed six saves in the cage for CBU.
The Lancers were 9-for-26 from the field and were only 2-for-6 on 6-on-5 opportunities while Pacific went 2-for-4 on 6-on-5 chances.
After spending the last week on the road, California Baptist gets to return back to the Lancer Aquatics Center, Friday, when they host Riverside CC for a 3 p.m. contest.
