SWEEPING THE EAST
BOSTON ? California Baptist completed a sweep at the MIT Invite with wins over Harvard (15-10) and MIT (13-10).
The Lancers (9-2) got nine goals on the day by Aaron Steiger. The sophomore driver opened the day with four goals against The Crimson and then found the back of the net a season-high five times against the Engineers. It was the seventh time this year that Steiger scored at least three goals.
The Lancers took command early against Harvard as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. CBU still held a five-goal lead at the half at 9-4 before stretching their lead to 13-6 at the end of the third. The Crimson tried to make a fourth-quarter run, but CBU did enough to hold off Harvard in the end.
Chris Gwinn, Alan Ogden, Norbert Karoly and Brent Troutman all scored a pair of goals while Brett Landfield, Chris Morgan, Nick Schofield and Chris Toy all scored solo goals.
Zach Bowman posted 11 saves on the day while Dylan Cox added six.
CBU held a 7-4 lead at the half on MIT, but the Engineers cut it to 10-8 at the end of the third. The Lancers pulled away in the final quarter outscoring MIT 3-2 in the fourth.
Jason Bills, Morgan and Peter Hines each found the back of the net twice and Troutman and Jeff Woolstenhulme each scored single goals.
Bowman notched seven saves in the win.
CBU travels to Concordia, Wednesday, for a rematch of the season opener that the Lancers won 10-7.
