FULLERTON, Calif. ? California Baptist is just glad to come away from Hope International with a win after a five-set scare from the Royals.

The Lancers (14-1, 3-1), still riding a high off their biggest win of the year over Concordia, got a little surprise from the Royals (4-6, 1-3) who have not defeated CBU since 2003.

Fei Shi and Noelle Dyk carried the Lancers with a combined 38 kills and 25 digs. Both Shi and Dyk notched double-doubles with Shi's 20 kills and 13 digs and Dyk's 18 kills and 12 digs. Colleen Sweeney also added 12 kills. Krista Hasemeyer dished out a match-high 43 assists and was also one of three Lancers to serve a trio of aces. Mical Bell and Katrina Clark also served three aces.

Clark led the Lancers with 16 digs while Rene Simon led CBU with four blocks. Sweeney, Shi and Rauschenbach also posted three blocks.

The Lancers as a team hit at a .253 clip (62-23-154) for the match, posted 8.5 team blocks and served 12 total aces in the win.

Trailing 2-1 and not hitting over .300 in the first three sets, CBU hit .316 and .571 in the final two sets and held Hope to a .074 and .000 clip in the fourth and fifth sets.

After trailing 7-4 in the fourth set, CBU went on a 6-0 run that included a pair of kills each from Dyk and Jessica Kalama. The Lancers controlled the set from there and carried that momentum into the final set. CBU used a perfect sideout percentage and six kills by Dyk to take the final set and the match.

CBU started off in the hole trailing 1-0 in the match. The Lancers actually jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the match, but the Royals battled back to tie the opening set at 12. CBU took its last lead at 23-22 before consecutive points from the Royals made it 24-23. The Lancers tied it at 24 on a Sweeney kill, but HIU took the set with back-to-back points.

CBU took advantage of a -.118 hitting percentage by Hope to tie the match at 1-1, but the Royals rebounded in the third set hitting .320, while holding the Lancers to a .088 clip. CBU had a chance to take control of the set after tying it at 19, but the Royals scored six straight to close out the set, but that's all the damage Hope could do.

The Lancers will now get set for back-to-back home contests by hosting Westmont, Tuesday, and Azusa Pacific, Thursday. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. start inside Van Dyne Gym.
