SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- In a tournament that featured seven teams who are receiving votes in the latest CWPA top-20 poll, No. 20-ranked California Baptist University snagged a win in its first game of the Santa Clara Tournament Friday night with a victory over RV Brown 11-8. Saturday was a different story for CBU however, as it fell to host No. 16 Santa Clara 11-6, and then to No. 10 Concordia (Calif.) 10-8. CBU is now 17-6 overall.

In the Lancers first game of the tournament, Brown played CBU tight, with CBU taking only a one goal, 5-4, advantage into halftime.  The Lancers added six more goals in the second half, but allowed four, taking a close win.

CBU was led by Chris Toy who netted four goals in the contest, with Norbert Karoly tallying three of his own. Austen Ramer posted nine save in the goal.

The Lancers started their play on day two of the tournament against host Santa Clara, which proved to be a tough contest. CBU fell behind 3-2 by the end of the first quarter and was not able to gain an edge on the Broncos, eventually unable to complete an upset.

Tommy Hunter led CBU in the scoring column with two goals. Freshman Cody Gagnon held down the net for the Lancers, posting a career-high 11 saves in the contest.

In the Lancers' final game of the tournament, CBU played Concordia close. The score was tied at the end of each quarter, through the first three. However, the Eagles were able to find the back of the net twice more than the Lancers, and took a hard-fought battle from CBU.

Aaron Steiger led CBU in scoring, adding four more goals to his season total in the contest. Toy also netted two scores for CBU. Gagnon tallied nine more saves for the Lancers in the match.

CBU will be back in the pool on Friday, as they make up a previously postponed contest with Riverside Community College at 3 p.m. at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
