BELMONT, Calif. --- Last night California Baptist University's post players were put to the test against the length of Simon Fraser. Saturday it was the guard's turn to take over, as Simone Holmes and Myriah Hicks combined to lead the Lancers to a 90-67 win against Holy Names.

Holmes led all scorers with 21 points in the game and Hicks had 17 with six assists.

"Overall it was just a better effort than last night," said Head Coach John Marcum. "Simone and Myriah were great for us and I thought our transition game was especially good."

CBU used a nine-point run mid-way through the opening half to go up 19-9 and then rattled off 12-straight late in the half to take a 43-24 lead into the break.

The Hawks would cut the Lancer lead to nine at the 11:03 mark in the second half, though. Alexis Johnson and Amy Browne answered with back-to-back jumpers for CBU and after trading several baskets, the Lancers had one more run in them, knocking in eight-straight points to go up 77-58. Holy Names wouldn't get any closer than 18 the rest of the way.

Johnson led CBU through the first half with nine points, but it was Hicks and Holmes that put the game away in the second half, combining to score 23.

Johnson finished the game with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 boards.

"I thought we also did an excellent job dominating the boards tonight," said Marcum. "That, combined with making as many free throws as they took was key."

The Lancers shot 79.3 percent from the foul line in the game, hitting 23-of-29 free throws. CBU out-rebounded the Hawks 60-45. Hicks led the team with 9-of-10 free throws.

After allowing Simon Fraser to shoot better than 40 percent last night, the Lancers held Holy Names to just 33.3 percent shooting Saturday.

With the win CBU evens its record at 1-1, while the Hawks fall to 4-5. The Lancers head back to Riverside to play at La Sierra Nov. 23.
