HEAT STROKE
IRVINE, Calif. --- No. 6 California Baptist University led wire-to-wire in an impressive 71-50 victory at Concordia Tuesday night.
Brenna Hahn led all scorers with 15 points on the night and surpassed 1,300 career points to move to 10th on CBU's all-time list with 1,308 points in her four-year career.
“I thought our defense was awesome, actually our best defensive game of the year,” said Head Coach John Marcum. “Still offensively five players in double figures is pretty impressive, and we had different players get hot at the right time which helped. This is an unselfish team, and we shared the ball a lot. Our girls turned down some good looks to get some great looks.”
The Lancers continued their push to end the regular season on a high note, moving to 22-7 overall, 15-4 GSAC with their third-straight win. Concordia falls to 14-11, 9-10 with the loss.
Hahn recorded her 1,300th point on a free throw with 1:42 left in the first period, giving the Lancers their largest lead of the opening half. CBU would take a 32-24 advantage into the break.
After pushing the lead to 11 in the second half, the Lancers went on a 12-2 to push their advantage to 21 with 6:50 to play. CBU had five different players score during the run.
After shooting just 40 percent from the field in the first half, the Lancers went 17-for-32 in the second half to shoot 53.1 percent. CBU was 7-of-19 from beyond the arc in the game.
The Lancers held the Eagles to 33.9 percent shooting in the game and sent the home team to the line for just 12 foul shots. CBU also out-rebounded Concordia 43-31.
After Hahn's 15 points,
S.J. Simmons scored 14 and
V.V. Vasciunaite scored 13.
Dana Olsen chipped in 12 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Renetha Burton posted 10 points and six rebounds.
“We had a lot of great opportunities to rebound and did a great job on the glass,” said Marcum. “
Marlee Rice gave us a good lift off the bench, she contributed very well.”
Rice played 15 minutes for the Lancers grabbing a pair of offensive boards and scoring five points.
Nicole Fu led Concordia with 13 points and Karen Carney added 10.
CBU finishes the regular season at home against Fresno Pacific Saturday. The Lancers look to hold on to the second seed heading into the GSAC tournament.
