Second Half Sweep
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. --- California Baptist University knows plenty about sweeping road trips as of late.
CBU made a three-game sweep of the team's trip to Las Vegas over the Christmas break and then finished off a sweep on Saturday of the Lancers' three PacWest games in Northern California, with a win over Dominican.
The Lancers needed everything they had on the night, using a huge second half to overcome a five-point first half deficit in getting the 74-56 win.
CBU got season high point totals from Myriah Hicks and Alexis Johnson, and forced 24 turnovers to defeat the Penguins. Hicks scored 25 points, a season-best for any Lancer, and grabbed five steals, while Johnson scored 16 and grabbed seven boards.
The Lancers, who had already defeated Notre Dame de Namur and Academy of Art on the trip, moved to 11-1 overall, 4-0 PacWest with the win, while Dominican falls to 1-12, 0-3.
The Lancers trailed 35-30 after one half of play, falling behind by as much as 13 in the first period, before finding a rally four minutes into the second half.
CBU went on a 14-5 run with 16 minutes remaining in the game, sparked by a jumper from Johnson which gave CBU its first lead since mid-way through the first half at 41-39. Hicks scored five points during the run and Simone Holmes capped it with a jumper that put CBU up by nine.
The closest Dominican would come the rest of the way was within six, but the Lancers promptly scored 11 consecutive points to put the game out of reach.
Hicks scored 20 of her 25 points in the second half and the Lancers made 16 free throws to secure the win. CBU was just 4-of-8 from the foul line in the first half. The Lancers also owned an 18-8 points in the paint advantage and scored 13 points off turnovers in the second half.
Ariana Flynn came off the bench to lead the Penguins with 17 points, and Lauren Hyatt added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Holmes was the third Lancer in double figures with 12 points and Nicole Anderson led the team with eight rebounds. CBU shot 43.1 percent from the floor in the game.
The Lancers head back home after the road trip, getting a week off before hosting Notre Dame de Namur on Jan. 14.
