Lancers' Late Night Loss
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- After a rough morning filled
with missed flights, late busses and illness, California Baptist University
took on the Air Force Falcons 7,258 feet above sea level.
The Falcons defeated the Lancers 11-8 after a 4-2 outburst sealed
the victory.
The game was tight for the first three quarters, CBU
trailing by just one goal heading into the fourth quarter.
“They just outplayed us in the fourth quarter,” said head
coach Rick Rowland.
The Falcons were able to convert both of their 6-on-5
opportunities into goals in the fourth quarter, the Lancers went 0-3 in 6-on-5
chances.
“At one point in the third we had it tied at five, but they
pulled away in the final quarter,” Rowland said.
CBU was led by Cameron Custance and Matt Puig, each with two
goals. Jake Jizmejian, Scott Gleason, Chris Vanjoff and David Rodriguez all had
one goal.
“Custance had himself a nice little game,” said Rowland. “He
played well on offense and defense, picking up four steals.”
Austen Ramer picked up 13 saves, adding to his career saves
record that he set last weekend. He also had one penalty shot block and two
exclusions.
Rowland said that the pool took some adjusting too, as the
air that far above sea level is harder for the players who are not used to it.
“The air is rare,” said Rowland. “We have to overcome the
air.”
Tomorrow, the Lancers will get another chance, as they play
against Air Force one more time, at 7 p.m. They also face Fresno Pacific at 2
p.m.
“After some rest we will hopefully get our transition game
back tomorrow,” said Rowland. “We hope to bounce back.”
The loss drops the Lancers to 13-10 on the season, with just
six games remaining.
