FRESNO, Calif. --
It all came down to one shot, as California Baptist University and Fresno Pacific could not find any separation through 32-regulation minutes and a full overtime session.

The Sunbirds came up with the golden goal in sudden death Thursday in their home pool to claim a 14-13 Western Water Polo Association victory over the Lancers, who are ranked No. 19 in the NCAA. CBU falls to 13-11, 1-3 in conference, while FPU climbs to 10-6, 1-2.

Eric Carnohan scored five goals in the loss for the Lancers, who also received a hat trick from Nick Candau and two goals from Brent Teraoka. CBU split Neil Stott and Joseph Moorman in goal, with Stott played the first half and grabbing seven saves, while Moorman had five saves in the second half, including overtime play.

Over the final three minutes of regulation, the Lancers trailed by a pair of goals twice, but they played their best late to knot the score and send it into overtime. A Sunbird goal with 3:25 to go in the fourth quarter gave the home team an 11-9 lead, but 34 seconds later a Spencer Shore goal brought CBU within one, 11-10.

The Sunbirds established their cushion, 12-10, with 2:13 remaining but the Lancers closed out the fourth with consecutive scores from Carnohan with 1:12 on the clock and 23 seconds to go. Jake Jizmejian scored the first goal of overtime for CBU 29 seconds in, but FPU tied things back up just 15 seconds later to tie things at 13-13. Neither team could scratch out a goal through the rest of the six-minute overtime period, which set up sudden death.

Fresno Pacific broke the scoring drought with a goal at the 1:27 mark of the golden-goal period to end the game.

CBU's weekend continues with nonconference action in the Santa Clara Rodeo. First, the Lancers face 14th-ranked Brown in a neutral-site game Friday at 6:20 p.m., followed by a pair of Saturday contests against No. 12 UC Davis and Bucknell, which is receiving votes in the top-20 polls, at 10:40 a.m. and 2:40 p.m., respectively.
