SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- A pair of tough losses marked the end of California Baptist University's run in the Santa Clara Rodeo. The Lancers dropped a rematch with No. 12 UC Davis, 13-9, and then fell to Bucknell, 13-10.
Brent Teraoka had a team-high five goals on the day and a hat trick against Bucknell, while
Joseph Moorman had 15 saves in the two games. CBU falls to 13-14 on the year, UC Davis improved to 11-12 and Bucknell moved to 10-6.
After the Lancers defeated the Aggies in overtime by a score of 10-9 on Oct. 9, UC Davis came out looking for revenge and took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. The Lancers went on a 4-3 run from there, on consecutive goals from Teraoka and tallies from
Spencer Shore and
Thomas Henline.
Cody Wetherbee tied the game at 6-6, scoring the first two goals of the second half.
UC Davis responded and took a 10-8 lead into the fourth quarter, despite
Elad Gunya and
Davor Koret adding scores in the third quarter. The Aggies scored twice to open the fourth, which allowed them to secure the 13-9 victory, with
Eric Carnohan pouring in CBU's last goal of the contest.
In addition to Teraoka's hat trick,
Clint Walling had two goals against the Bison. The Lancers fell into a 3-1 hole in the first quarter against Bucknell, as well, but closed within 5-4 on goals from
Nick Candau, Wetherbee, Walling and
David Ring. Still, Bucknell pushed its lead back up to two, 6-4, heading into the third quarter.
The Bison won the third quarter on a score of 4-2 to help it take the game, as CBU trailed by at least three the rest of the way with Walling ending the scoring at 13-10.
