IRVINE, Calif. — There was no break from California Baptist University's ultra-competitive slate, as it faced a top-20 ranked team for the fourth game in a row at No. 12 UC Irvine Wednesday night.
The Anteaters won the conference clash 13-5 after scoring five of the six first-quarter goals to improve to 14-11 this season. CBU fell to 13-18 this season, but received 14 saves from
Joseph Moorman in the cage and goals from
Cody Wetherbee,
Preston Shore,
Nick Candau,
Brent Teraoka and
Eric Carnohan.
After UCI jumped out to a 5-1 lead, CBU matched the Anteaters as each squad scored twice in the second quarter. The Lancers matched their top-ranked opponents again in the fourth quarter, with each team scoring just once in the frame, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
CBU closes out its last home game on Saturday against Concordia at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the game starting, the Lancers will honor the seniors competing in their last collegiate competition, as well as head coach
Rick Rowland as he finishes his final season at the helm of the men's water polo program.
