RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- After celebrating a win on Senior Day and in Coach
Rick Rowland's final home game, California Baptist University hopes more celebrations are in its future, as it looks to extend its season and Rowland's at the Western Water Polo Association Tournament this weekend.
The Lancers will look to make a miraculous run into the NCAA postseason at the conference tournament, which takes place at the Loyola Marymount Burns Aquatics Center. In order to do so, CBU will need to shed its sixth seed and win the WWPA Championships.
First step for CBU is a rematch with conference rival and 15th-ranked Air Force, the third seed, Friday at 2 p.m. The Lancers and Falcons played their way to a one-goal decision Nov. 7th at the Lancer Aquatic Center, with Air Force claiming the 8-7 victory. A CBU win would move it into the semifinals to face top-seeded and sixth-ranked UC San Diego Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
A first-round loss would put the Lancers in a fifth-place game against host Loyola Marymount or Santa Clara. The Lions are the fourth seed and No. 16 team in the nation, while Santa Clara is the fifth seed and 17th-ranked team in the NCAA.Â
Single-day tickets are available for purchase at the three-day tournament. Adult and student/youth tickets cost $10 and $5, respectively, on Friday and Saturday and go up to $15 and $10 on the final day of the event. Tickets can be purchased prior to the event on
Loyola Marymount's website, printed out and shown at the gate. For more information on the WWPA Tournament, visit the
WWPA website.Â
