SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After sealing its third victory over a top-20 ranked opponent in the season a day earlier, California Baptist University secured its biggest upset victory of the year with a 13-11 victory over 11th-ranked Brown.

For the second day in a row, CBU received a trio of hat tricks to knock off a top-ranked team Saturday at the Santa Clara Rodeo. The Lancers defeated No. 17 St. Francis on Friday. David Ring scored four goals in the victory, while Tucker Angelo and Ryan Penney each cashed in three. Joseph Moorman continued to be a force in the cage, with 14 saves, two assists and a steal in the win.

In all, CBU received five goals from Ring on the day and four from Angelo, as both scored in a 13-3 loss to No. 14 Bucknell earlier in the day. Moorman wound up with 24 saves overall.

"This win is big for our confidence, we hadn't really had a statement victory yet this year," Coach Kevin Rosa said. "It's good to know that when we are doing what we need to do, we can beat really good teams. It's good to know because we have a few big games coming up next week."

When the dust settled, CBU saw its record move up to 14-10 this season. The Lancers previously had a 17-11 win over No. 16 Whittier on Oct. 2nd as their biggest upset under first-year Coach Kevin Rosa. They return home on Thursday to take on Loyola Marymount in Western Water Polo Association action at 7 p.m.

With three predominant scorers against the Bears, the passing game was dominated by Brent Teraoka and Teddy Forte, with each logging four assists in the game. Clint Walling was the only Lancer to wind up with a goal, assist and steal in the game.

CBU went into the fourth quarter up a goal, 10-9, on Brown, but the Bears tied it 26 seconds into the frame. Tanner Shore restored the Lancers' lead with a goal with 5:29 to play, and Ring built it up to two-goal cushion, 12-10, with 3:08 remaining.

When Brown pulled back within a goal with 2:38 to go, the Lancers milked some time off the clock before Angelo scored with 1:44 to go, adding some insurance and what would be the capper.

"It's nice to have different people step up over four games in three days," Rosa said. "We were trying to get people in and out as much as possible. In four games, we had five guys with at least three goals, which says a lot about our balance."

It helped CBU hold on to a win after another strong start Saturday. The Lancers won the first quarter, 5-3, after opening with a 3-1 run in the first three minutes on goals from Ring, Angelo and Nick Candau

"Every game this weekend we got off to a good start, we really started well today," Rosa said. "We also finished well against Brown. Our focus was on the fourth quarter, we went in up a goal, they responded but we pulled away in the fourth."
