DAVIS, Calif. – Despite facing its third top-five ranked team in eight games, California Baptist University gave No. 5 University of Pacific all it could handle in the first half Friday. The Tigers would rebound from an early two-goal deficit for a 14-4 victory at the Aggie Shootout held at UC Davis.
Â
Joseph Moorman logged another double-digit save game with 12 total for CBU, which fell to 2-6 this season. The Tigers improved to 8-1 on the year. All four Lancer goals were scored at even strength, with Teddy Forte scoring a team-high two goals.
Nick Candau added to the defensive effort, with three steals for the Lancers.
Â
The Lancers showed no fear against a dangerous Pacific squad, with
Clint Walling scoring first for CBU about four minutes into the game. Pacific answered 16 seconds later to tie things at 1-1. CBU had the last laugh of the first half, however, as Forte scored an unassisted goal 1:22 before the first horn.
Â
Up 2-1, the Lancers added to their lead when
David Ring put them up 3-1 just 1:12 into the second quarter. Pacific was able to rally back and score nine unanswered, which was enough for the comeback.
Â
CBU will play its third and fourth games in three days with a doubleheader Saturday in the Aggie Shootout, as it will face Concordia and Diablo Valley College at 8 a.m. and 2:40 p.m., respectively.
