RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Looking to keep its undefeated streak in tact, California Baptist University had to contend with two teams on Saturday at the Lancer Aquatics Center. The Lancers would improve to 5-0 this season in dual meets, with wins over Fresno Pacific (177-121) and Concordia (240-48).
Â
Josh Hanson certainly did his part, per usual, with four wins on the day, but a newcomer stole the show for CBU.
Jean Pierre Monteagudo, who just joined the Lancers over Christmas break, pulled off a major upset in the 100-yard butterfly over the Sunbirds' Wesley Coles, in just Monteagudo'sÂ
second outing with the team. It came down to the final stretch, quite literally, with Monteagudo out touching Coles him by .01 of a second for a win in 52.14 seconds. The Lima, Peru native also took second in the 200 butterfly (1:53.91) and was on the runner-up 200-medley relay team (1:36.86).
Â
Hanson posted wins in the 100 (51.65) and 200 backstrokes (1:53.58) and 200 individual medley (1:51.96). He also swam the third leg of the victorious 400-free relay team (3:10.35), which consisted of Bernardo Gonzalez Valentim,
Tanner Shore and
Alexis Ohmar.
Â
Ohmar would also win the 100 (46.71) and 200 frees (1:42.56) to give CBU a three-way winner, along with Hanson's four victories.
Elijah Barrows posted a win in the 1000 free (10:11.49) for the Lancers, as well.
Â
CBU's divers won both boards, with
Zach Mullins winning the one-meter with 267.70 points and
Zach Parry taking the three-meter (301.20).
