CBU Sweeps Senior Day

| By:
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Senior Day all came down to the last race, as California Baptist University looked to defeat both Concordia and Fresno Pacific in its last home event of the season. A first-place finish to the 200-yard freestyle relay in one minute, 24.37 seconds secured the sweep Saturday at the Lancer Aquatics Center, as 15th-ranked CBU knocked off the Sunbirds, 150-148, and the Eagles, 266-27.

With one dual left on the schedule, the Lancers pull even at 4-4 this year heading to fifth-ranked UC San Diego for a big meet with its D-II rival next Saturday at noon. FPU moved to 2-2 on the year, while Concordia slid to 0-3.

Adrien Deloffre, Tanner Shore, Bernardo Valentim and Alexis Ohmar made up the first-place 200-free relay, which secured the team victory for CBU. It all came down to who touched first, as FPU was not far behind in second place, with a time of 1:24.69.

Robert Griffith and Zach Parry both won two individual events for the Lancers. Griffith, a distance freestyler, won the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:41.01 seconds and the 500 free in 4:38.91. Parry, a diver, was victorious on both boards, with 325.35 points on the 3-meter and 290.02 on the 1-meter.

In addition to his heroics on the 200-free relay, Valentim won the 100 free in 46.51. CBU dominated the event, with Deloffre taking third (47.17), Ohmar in fourth (47.41), David Ring in fifth (47.66) and Shore in sixth (47.99).

Shore, who's just a sophomore, had an impressive day of his own, with a win in the 200 free (1:41.87) and runner-up mark in the 500 free (4:39.12). Deloffre (1:42.39) and Christian Britton (1:44.22) gave CBU the No. 2 and 4 swimmers in the 200 free.

Josh Fluetsch was top-three in both the 1000 free (9:52.31, second) and 500 free (4:44.09), as CBU went one-two in the 1000 and swept first to third in the 500 free.

Ohmar also took second in the 100 back (52.02), while Scott Tolman went runner-up in both the 100 (57.42) and 200 breaststrokes (2:05.69). Brandon Schuster contributed his fair share of points for the Lancers by winning the 400 individual medley (4:04.79), taking third in the 200 (1:55.77) and fourth in the 100 backs (53.79).

Not lost in the shuffle was CBU's depth on the boards, as Andrew Rotundo and Garett Chew placed third and fourth on both the 1 and 3-meter boards. Rotundo scored 246.90 points on the 3-meter and 228.15 points on the 1-meter, while Chew tallied 229.27 points on 3-meter and 197.62 points on the 1-meter.

Ohmar, Tolman and Valentim would also join forces with Justin Quiroga for a second-place time of 3:27.45 on the 400-medley relay.
