ALAMEDA, Calif. – California Baptist University got off to another hot start in its series with Holy Names on Friday, but the Hawks bounced back to get a 6-2 win at the College of Alameda.
Seven different Lancers logged base hits in the game, with DJ Porter going 2-for-4, while CBU's bullpen threw 4.2 shutout innings. California Baptist University moves to 24-13, 15-8 in the PacWest and the Hawks are now 9-27, 6-17. The series will end with a noon game on Saturday.Â
A scoreless first inning ended with a two-run second for the Lancers. Tommy Bell singled into left center with one out to start things out, but HNU hoped to get out of it by recording the second out of the frame. Porter kept the inning alive with a single up the middle and Alfredo Rodriguez plated both runners with a double in the right-center gap.
After putting just one base runner on board in the first two innings, Holy Names struck for three runs and the lead in the third and added three more in the fourth for a four-run cushion. CBU relievers Seth Kaneen and Andrew Bernstein combined to hold the Hawks to just one hit over the final 4.2 innings, but Holy Names' pitching was up to the task to escape with the 6-2 victory.
