IRVINE, Calif. – Five players scored in double figures, while California Baptist University nearly shot 50 percent from the field on the road at Concordia University of Irvine on Saturday.
A first-half lead was whittled away until the Eagles pulled off a dramatic 82-76 comeback victory over the Lancers, who drop to 8-10, 5-5 in the PacWest. CUI improves to 10-7, 7-4, while the Lancers prepare for a trip to Azusa Pacific Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
CBU was impressive at Concordia, as it posted a 47.6 field goal percentage, dished out 19 assists and forced 17 turnovers compared to its 10.
Tori Mitchell led the Lancers' attack with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, while

Georgia Dale (5-8) and
Blaysen Varnadoe (6-8) all scored 13 and
Ane Olaeta (6-9) contributed 12 more points.
Ram collected a double-double with 11 rebounds and four assists, while Olaeta, Varnadoe and

Trailing 14-8 with 4:40 left in the first quarter, CBU turned the game around with an 18-7 run to take a 26-21 lead into the second quarter. The Lancers knocked down four three-pointers in that span, with Meriggioli hitting two of them. Consecutive triples from Meriggioli and Ram started the run, while Varnadoe scored the final nine points of the first-quarter run.
CBU built on its momentum and opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run to increase its lead out to as much as 14. Mitchell scored six of CBU's first eight points in the quarter to make it 35-21 two-and-a-half minutes into the frame.
The Eagles whittled down their deficit to 41-35 with 1:30 left in the first half, but a jumper from Olaeta and buzzer-beating layup from Meriggioli put the Lancers up 10, 45-35, at the break.
A Mitchell layup and Dale three-pointer pushed the Lancers back in front by 11, 50-39, about three minutes into the third, but Concordia flipped a switch from there and pulled off a late comeback for the home win.
