LAS VEGAS –
Last season, California Baptist University was the runner-up at the NCAA Division II Championships. The Lancers got a chance to see how they match up against Division I competition in their first dual as a DI program at UNLV.

CBU defeated the Rebels, 172-128, by winning 10 of 14 events at Jim Reitz Pool on Saturday. It is a big win over a UNLV team that took second in the Western Athletic Conference last year. The Lancers' depth was on full display at UNLV, as well, as they added 13 other top-three individual finishes. The Lancers will next host Pomona-Pitzer for a dual on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

"We won 10 of 14 swimming events, which is huge against a successful program like UNLV," Coach Rick Rowland said.

Jacob Leahy, the reigning Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, had another big day for the Lancers. He won the 100-yard freestyle in 45.60 seconds, with teammate Justin Quiroga pushing him before taking second in 46.48.

The Lancers also had the top-two finishers in 200 butterfly, thanks to David Miller (1:51.65) and Adityastha Wratsangka (1:51.96).

Leahy added another individual win in the 100 back (49.51), with Robert Moseley taking third in 51.45.

Scott Tolman also had two individual wins in the breaststroke events, hitting the wall first in the 100 breast in 56 seconds flat and the 200 in 2:02.32. Brandon Schuster added a third-place mark for CBU in the 100 breast (58.11).

Schuster had the edge on Tolman in the 400 individual medley, with a victorious time of 3:59.37, while Tolman swam into third in 4:07.16.

CBU got individual wins from Quiroga in the 100 butterfly (49.68) and Walters in the 50 free (21.21). Walters also took third in the 100 fly (49.95).

Quiroga, Leahy and Walters all helped the Lancers win both relays. Schuster joined them for the win in the 400-medley relay (3:18.96), while Jerome Heidrich teamed up for the win in the 400 free (3:03.97).

Dylan Sweikert had two runner-up swims in the 500 free (4:44.36) and 1650 free (16:28.67). Heidrich and Moseley added second-place swims in the 200 free (1:41.19) and 200 back (1:52.53), respectively.

The Lancers had three third-place swims from Josh Fluetsch in the 1650 free (16:44.84), Quiroga in the 200 free (1:42.02) and Wratsangka in the 200 back (1:55.87).
