CBU Puts Together Its Best Showing Against UCLA

| By:
LOS ANGELES – Two goals from Kyle Johnson and a strong game in the cage from Tristan Felberg led California Baptist University to one of its best-ever performance against perennial power UCLA.

Felberg, a true freshman, finished with nine saves and two steals in a 12-6 loss to the second-ranked Bruins on Saturday afternoon at the Spieker Aquatics Center. Zach Lowery (two assists) and Joseph Galgani (one goal, one assist) each added two points for the 20th-ranked Lancers.

The Bruins have won 11 NCAA Championships, including three of the last five, and five conference titles. CBU's six-goal loss to the national power was the closest in the 10-game series between CBU and UCLA, topping a pair of seven-goal losses the Lancers had to the Bruins in 2003.

UCLA led by as many as five on the day, but CBU made things a bit interesting in the second half. Hunter Barnett scored with four seconds left before halftime and then a Logan Mena goal 28 seconds into the third quarter made it a three-goal game, 8-5.

The Bruins scored the next two goals and Johnson capped the scoring with 1:48 left in the third. CBU drops to 9-12 on the year, while UCLA improves to 13-1. The Lancers head to Santa Clara next weekend for a Western Water Polo Association game with the Broncos on Thursday at 3 p.m. and then three non-conference games with Harvard, St. Francis and Bucknell in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
