Stifling Lancer Defense Shuts Out Broncos In Final Frame

| By:
SANTA CLARA – Hat tricks from Angel Sanchez, PJ McDonough, and Logan Mena help lead the Lancers to a hard-fought 15-13 win over the Broncos of Santa Clara University. The win is a nice start to a weekend that includes three more games, all of which are against top-20 ranked teams.

The loss extends the Broncos losing streak to five straight after they had rattled off seven wins in eight games.

The 15 goals scored by the Lancers are the third most against a Division I opponent this season, and the most since dropping 17 on Wagner on September 8 of this year. Zach Lowery played a big role with five assists and a goal of his own.

The game was opened up rather quickly when Mena scored just 27 seconds into the game. After that, the match would remain close throughout, with neither team ever leading by more than two goals.

In fact, the game was tied 11 times throughout the match, with the Lancers taking the lead on seven different points throughout.

When the wake settled, eight Lancers contributed goals, including a pair from Joseph Galgani. Christian Britton began a new assists streak in today's game, tallying two dimes. Sanchez was the only Lancer to account for a goal (3) and an assist (1).

CBU took advantage of the opportunities they were given, converting 4-6 power-play opportunities into points, and were efficient with their chances, finishing the game with a .556 shooting percentage.

Gabe Thorne was challenge consistently during the game as Santa Clara took 33 total shots, but Thornes 14 saves were enough to secure the Lancer win.

The men will stay in Santa Clara for the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, hosted by Santa Clara, which will pit CBU against #9 Harvard (10/25 @ 1:20 p.m.), #18 St. Francis (10/26 @ 9:00 a.m.) and #15 Bucknell (10/26 @ 1:00 p.m.) The last two games will be a chance for the Lancers to avenge a pair of one-goal losses that occurred to open the season to St. Francis and Bucknell.
