RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University's men's basketball team gave the Inland Empire an early Christmas present on Sunday night, as the Lancers rolled past the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State, 103-66.
Tonight's game marked the second-largest margin of victory on the season, and the third time the Lancers have scored in triple digits.
CBU improves to 8-4 on the season and extends its win streak to five in a row. The Lancers are currently undefeated in the month of December and have one more game before they bring in the New Year.
The Lancers will host Ottawa University – Arizona on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. for the final game of the 2019 season. CBU's homestand won't end there, though, as the Lancers kick-off conference play with home games against UT Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 2 and NM State on Jan. 4.
Ferron Flavors Jr. finished with a team-high 19 points, going 5-9 from the 3-point line with four rebounds and two assists. Both Milan Acquaah and Tre Armstrong added 15 points each, while Glen Morison tallied 13, and Reed Nottage recorded 11. Armstrong, who played a team-best 31 minutes, set season-highs in rebounds (six) and assists (five).
It was the best shooting night the Lancers have produced thus far. The team went 17-35 from beyond the arc for a 48.6 percent clip, beating the previous best set against UC Irvine (46.2). The 17 threes by the Lancers were one shy of tying the school record set last season against MVSU.
The Lancers were hot early, knocking down five of their first six threes to enjoy a double-digit lead at the 16:36 mark.
The lead grew to 21 on a Zach Pirog dunk at the 10:47 mark, and the Lancers never looked back.
Nottage helped the Lancers cross the 30-point margin with less than four to go, knocking down the Lancers' 10th three of the night.
CBU went into the locker room up 30, 59-29, after shooting 65.6 percent from the field and 58.8 percent from the 3-point line.
The Lancers came out of the break and remained in the driver seat for the entire second half. Armstrong was the biggest contributor in the final 20 minutes, recording 10 of his 15 points in the second half.
Micah Robinson provided some life off the bench, checking into the game and going 2-4 from deep. In fact, Robinson gave the Lancer faithful some hope at the end, hitting the 16th and 17th threes of the game.
