RIVERSIDE -- The California Baptist women's basketball team faced off with Kansas City for the final time as WAC opponents, as the Roos return to the Summit League after this season and will take with them the final victory in the series, holding on to beat the Lancers 83-81 on Wednesday night.
Five Lancers scored in double figures, led by senior
Lexy Ram, who recorded another double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. That makes six double-doubles this season, including four in the past five games, after only recording two in her previous three years at CBU.
Delacy Brown was just behind Ram with 16 points, including a three-pointer with under a minute to play that brought the Lancers back within a point of tying the game. Brown also matched a career high with eight boards in an all-around effort from the senior.
Taylor Wu scored 13 points, highlighted by sinking a three at the buzzer to close out the first quarter, a shot that would give the Lancers an 11-point lead at the horn.
Tiena Afu also scored 13 points and matched Wu's buzzer-beater with her own to close out the third quarter. Afu made all three of her treys in third.
Georgia Dale was the final Lancer in double-digits, but it wasn't her scoring that highlighted her night, it was a pass. After Brown stole a Kansas City pass in the middle of the third, she advanced it to Dale at mid-court, who caught it and kept it going all in one motion with a behind the back pass to Ram for an easy lay-in.
CBU would lead at the end of the first and second quarters, but the Roos used a huge third quarter to take a one point lead into the fourth. The Lancers would end the game on a 7-2 run, but Kansas City would do what they do best and defend the paint, stifling the Lancers' shot attempt in the final seconds to escape with the win.
The Lancers will look to rebound against the reeling Chicago State Cougars on Saturday afternoon with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m at the CBU Events Center.
