WBB Preview: Lancers visit 'Runners and Lopes

| By:
RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University will head out for a pair of road games at CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday morning and Grand Canyon on Saturday afternoon.

CBU's most recent win was against Utah Valley, which held a share of first-place in the Western Athletic Conference at game time. In the contest, the Lancers were led by Ane Olaeta (23 points) and Lexy Ram (22 points), as they combined to score over half of the team's 80 points.

At the halfway point in the conference slate, CBU leads the Western Athletic Conference in assists at 16.9 per game and three-pointers made with a total of 67. Olaeta still maintains a firm grip on the league lead in assists, with 6.3 per game.

CSU Bakersfield is in the midst of a 3-3 stretch that has the 'Runners sitting at 5-3 in the WAC, looking up at Kansas City and Grand Canyon who are tied for first in the conference standings at 6-2.

The Icardo Center has been a safe place to play for CSUB for much of the season, holding a 10-2 record overall at home, although some recent weakness has become evident as those two losses have come within their last three games at home.

The Roadrunners struggle from beyond the arc, averaging a league low 23.1 percent from deep during conference play. It is balanced out by CSUB being the only team in the WAC to be top-three in both steals (first - 9.0) and blocks (third - 3.6) per game.

Grand Canyon will enter Saturday's contest with a full week of rest and riding a four-game win streak. The Lopes were able to squeak by UTRGV at home on Jan. 30, needing overtime to take a 62-60 decision, but handled the Aggies of NM State on Feb. 1, with relative ease, 60-49.

During their four-game run the Lopes have seen an uptick in defensive efficiency as they are holding opponents to 27.1 percent (81-241) from the field. It's below their season average of 38.5 percent.

Senior forward Da'Jah Daniel leads the WAC in rebounds per game and is the only player in the conference to be averaging double-digit rebounds on the season (10.6).
