Lancers Down Hawks In Nonconference Matchup

RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University cruised by San Diego Christian College on Saturday, as the Lancers downed the Hawks, 85-38.

With the win, the Lancers improve to 6-1 on the year. It also marks the 11th straight for the Lancers over the Hawks, with the streak dating back to Jan. 22, 2008.

CBU got it done on all fronts on the night, holding the Hawks to 21 percent from the field, 19 percent from the 3-point line, and winning the rebounding battle, 52-34.

Four Lancers finished in double figures, as Dan Akin led the way with 13 points and seven rebounds. Ty Rowell, Tre Armstrong, and Juhlawnei Stone all added 12 apiece, while Taran Armstrong, Te'Jon Sawyer, and Elijah Thomas were all one point shy of the double-digit mark with nine points.

Stone's 12 points marked a new career-high as he went a perfect 6-6 from the field in his nine minutes of action. Taran Armstrong recorded his second double-digit rebounding night in his young career, coming away with a team-best 11 rebounds and six assists.

It was a dominating display from start to finish, as the Lancers largest run came in the second half from the 11:41 mark to the 3:19 mark. During that time span, the Lancers held the Hawks without a single point, going on a 25-0 run to close out the game.

FROM CROY:

"I thought we got better tonight," said CBU head coach Rick Croy. "We had a great conversation at halftime about what we want to be about and how we want to compete, and what we want to stand for, and we have to be able to bring it to each other. We started to do that, and we played harder. You have to play hard. It's a simple game when you play hard."

UP NEXT:

The Lancers will open the non-conference December slate with a game against Cal Poly on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in the CBU Events Center. It will be the first time the two teams will meet since the 2003-04 season.
