RIVERSIDE – The California Baptist University women's basketball team will be back in action after a week off, set to take on NM State for a doubleheader in the CBU Events Center. The Lancers are rested and healthy after positive COVID-19 cases in the UTRGV women's basketball program resulted in the cancelation of that series.
The Lancers 14-0 (6-0 WAC) record is one of just four undefeated records in the nation, joined by #1 Louisville (16-0), Bucknell (8-0), and UC Davis (5-0). The Lancers and Bucknell both hold the nation's second-longest win-streak at 17-straight games, trailing only inactive Princeton at 22-in-a-row. This seasons success has resulted in the Lancers continuously climbing the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll, most recently sniffing the top-10 at #11.
On top of the impressive record, CBU also maintains some of the top team stats in the country as well. The Lancers 21 assists per game ranks tied for third in the NCAA, while they are holding opponents to just 31.9% shooting from the field, which is third best, and their 1.41 assist-to-turnover ratio is tenth overall in Division I. The Lancers are also winning in very convincing fashion on the regular, winning by an average of 18.9 points-per-game, which is the 13
th best mark in the nation.
Despite taking the team's last game off for rest,
Ane Olaeta is still tops in the WAC and among the national leaders in assists with 98. That total puts her in fourth among all NCAA players, and with an average of 7.5 per game, she is 1.4 assists per game clear of the next closest player in the conference.

NM State was recently hit with a wave of positive COVID-19 case which forced the cancelation of its series against UTRGV last week. Before going on pause the Aggies had managed a 3-6 record while splitting its only WAC series against GCU, winning 61-53 in overtime on Jan. 15 before dropping the Jan. 16 game 61-52.
A pair of Aggies are averaging double-digit points this season as Aaliyah Prince (14.3) and Soufia Inoussa (10.0) carry the bulk of the scoring load for their team. NM State is shooting the ball well from beyond the arc as they lead the WAC in three-point percentage at 33.3 percent, however, it's the Lancers who hold the top-spot in the conference in three-point defense, allowing opponents just 23.0 percent from outside.
