Dominant Win Over NM State Marks Coach Olson’s 200th CBU Victory

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University women's basketball's 94-53 victory over New Mexico State was anything but just another win.

It marked Coach Jarrod Olson's 200th win as the Lancers' leader. He accomplished the feat in just 270 games, and his 74.1 winning percentage is by far the best rate in program history. At this point, Olson trails just Dave King, CBU's head coach from 1978-1994, in total program wins, as King amassed 287 during his tenure.
 
The Lancers had 10 players hit from deep, as they set a new season-high with 17 made three-pointers. It was just four shy of breaking the program's single-game record of 20, which has been accomplished three times. They didn't just hit them in quantity however, they also were efficient in their efforts, shooting 54.8 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Ane Olaeta led the Lancers early, scoring all 11 of her points and dishing six of her game-high seven assists in the first half. Freshman Nicole Avila-Ambrosi spread out her 15 points between the two halves, adding three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in another stellar all-around game.
 

SEND IN THE REINFORCEMENTS

While the starters did the bulk of the work, the bench had themselves a day to remember, as they nearly outscored NMSU by themselves by accounting for 43 points. Caitlyn Harper led the second-string charge with 15 points and six boards.

In all, seven bench players found their way into the scoring column, with six of them draining a three along the way. Georgia Dale is beginning to see her minutes increase, as the senior Aussie put in 16 minutes of work and spread out her stats, with five points, five rebounds and an assist.

WHAT'S NEXT

CBU will take on the Aggies again tomorrow afternoon with another 2 p.m. game time at the CBU Events Center. The Lancers will look to sweep the Aggies for the first time ever in WAC play.
