9/11/2021 5:04:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PRINCETON – California Baptist University men's water polo split a doubleheader at the Princeton Tournament to end the second week of the season on Saturday, with the Lancers picking up their first top-20 win of the year.

Tristan Felberg had a big day with 28 saves over both games on Saturday. The junior goalie came up big with 16 saves in a one-goal, 13-12 win over 16th-ranked Fordham. It helped the 14th-ranked Lancers end the week on a high note after they dropped their first game of the day to Bucknell, 12-10, which is also ranked 16th in the NCAA.

Offensively, Hunter Barnett scored a team-high four goals on the day, while Joseph Griffin, PJ McDonough and Zach Lowery each scored three times.

The Lancers go into the third week of the season with a 2-6 record, while Bucknell and Fordham both have matching records of 3-2. California Baptist will compete at the UC Davis Aggie Roundup next week where it's scheduled to face third-ranked Cal on Friday at 4 p.m. and seventh-ranked Pacific and Redlands on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

CBU trailed Fordham 5-4 a minute into the second quarter, but used a 9-4 run to go up by four with about four minutes left. Barnett and Lowery scored twice in that run, with Riley Bumgardner's goal with 4:20 to play giving the Lancers a 13-9 lead.

The Rams made it interesting, though, as they ended the game on a 4-0 run of their own. Fordham's final goal with 34 seconds left capped the scoring at 13-12. It was not enough to upset the Lancers, who relied on Felberg's 16 saves in the win.

Cameron Cullen logged five assists in the win, which was a career high and just two off the program's single-game record. Barnett, Lowery and Griffin each had two goals against Fordham, with Lowery adding two assists to his point tally.

In Saturday's opener with Bucknell, Felberg came up with 12 saves. McDonough and Barnett scored a pair of goals in the game, as well. McDonough (one assist), Bumgardner (two assists, one goal), Ian Escoto (three assists) and Lowery (two assists, one goal) each had three points in the loss. Lowery also drew two ejections, along with Barnett.
