RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University will welcome two first-time opponents to the CBU Events Center this week, as the Lancers will take on Sam Houston (Jan. 26) and Stephen F. Austin (Jan. 29).

Sam Houston officially became a Western Athletic Conference member on July 1, 2021, ending a 34-year run in the Southland Conference. It marks the fifth league Sam Houston has been affiliated with, having previously competed in the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Lone Star Conference, and the Gulf Star Conference before joining the Southland in 1987.

- Sam Houston is currently in second place in the WAC standings with a 7-1 record.

Stephen F. Austin joined Sam Houston as part of the 'Texas Four' moving over to the WAC. The move for SFA also ended a 34-year run in the Southland Conference.
