RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University hosted long-time rival Dixie State in the CBU Events Center on Thursday. The Trailblazers pulled off an unexpected upset of the Lancers, earning an 81-77 victory over the home team. CBU now stands at 19-7 on the year and 10-5 in conference.
It was a tale of two halves as the Lancers took a 15-point lead into the halftime break behind a monster first-half effort from
Ane Olaeta. The Basque Country point guard would finish the game with a double-double and then some. Olaeta dropped 28 points and 10 assists while also grabbing seven rebounds and seven steals. Her effort tied the Division I era single-game steal record set by
Taylor Wu on November 13, 2019.
Trinity San Antonio and
Georgia Dale scored 10 points each, while Harper finished the game one point shy of a double-double, scoring nine points while grabbing ten rebounds.
Dixie State used hot second-half shooting to cover the gap and build their own lead, shooting 55.6% (15-27) from the field, 60.0% (9-15) from distance, and converting 12-14 free throws to mount and complete their comeback.
