Game Recap: Men's Water Polo | | Daniel Cook, Director of Athletics Communications & Digital Media

Lancers Split Home and Away Contests on Saturday

RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University men's water polo pulled double duty on Saturday, hosting #4 Pepperdine in Riverside before traveling to Redlands to take on the Bulldogs. CBU hung tough with the top-ranked Waves, but one sub-optimal third period did in the Lancers as Pepperdine took game one 16-11. The Lancers bounced back on the road just a few hours later, defeating the Bulldogs 16-10 in Redlands.

GAME ONE: CBU 11 - PEPPERDINE 16

The Lancers jumped out to a 2-0 and 4-2 lead to start the game against the Waves. CBU's would falter a bit to close out the frame, though, as Pepperdine closed out with a 3-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. The second half was another tight eight minutes as both teams netted a trio to go into the break, with Pepperdine leading 8-7.

The Waves would essentially win the game with a convincing third period, outscoring CBU 5-1, with Touring Stanley putting in the one Lancer goal on a power play. The final frame was another even affair, with the teams going 3-3 in the fourth to reach the final scoreline.

Cameron Cullen connected on four shots and assisted another to lead CBU offensively, with Caleb Teraoka and Bodhi Bowden each netting a pair as well. Trevor Benge played three of the four quarters in goal, stopping six shots, with William Whitstone finishing the fourth with four more saves.

GAME TWO: CBU 16 - REDLANDS 10

Saturday's second match went the way of the Lancers, who got an all-around team effort on the stat sheet. CBU took away all doubt early, outscoring Redlands 5-2 and 6-2 in the first half to lead 11-4 at halftime.

In the end, 13 different Lancers scored against Redlands as Logan Puhl, Bowden, and Collin White all recorded a brace against the Bulldogs. Stanley added a trio of assists, as did Benge, who added eight more saves to his season total in game two.

The Lancers stand at 16-15 overall and 2-1 in the West Coast Conference after Saturday's action. Air Force is next on the schedule for the Lancers, coming up at the Lancer Aquatics Center on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 1:00 p.m.
