ARLINGTON, TX--- California Baptist wrapped up the series with the UTA Mavericks on Sunday, dropping the final game 6-5. Going back and forth throughout the afternoon, the Mavericks sealed their win in the eighth inning after they plated three runs for the lead. The Lancers move to 13-11 in the Western Athletic Conference and 25-23 overall.
Mitchel Simon had a good day at the plate and kicked off scoring for CBU with a solo home run in the top of the second for an early lead. After UTA tied it in the third, the Lancers added a pair of runs in the fifth for a two-run lead off a wild pitch and a perfect squeeze by
Michael Carpentier.
The Mavericks matched CBU again in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly, but the lead was quickly regained after Simon launched a hit into the left-field corner to score the runner on first base.
Dustin Garcia added to the Lancer's lead with an RBI single, but California Baptist ultimately couldn't get out of a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the eighth.
Simon walked away with a hit and an RBI, bringing in two runs himself. Freshman
Nicholas Dumesnil picked up another two hits against the UTA pitching staff, while Garcia rounded out the day with a hit and an RBI.
The Lancers return to Totman Stadium for a midweek tune-up against UCR for the final time this season, just before taking on Sacramento State in their final home WAC series.
