CBU Keeps Home Record Perfect After First Day of The Joust

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist men's water polo squad kept their 2024 home record perfect on Friday after recording a pair of wins over Whittier College and Biola University at The Joust Tournament. CBU improves to 12-8 on the season and is now 3-0 at the Lancer Aquatic Center.

CBU 20 - WHITTIER 12

The Lancers came out strong during the first official game of the day against the Fighting Poets, starting the day off with a goal from Bodhi Bowden. Bowden would go on to produce four more goals during the match and lead CBU to their first win of Friday. The Lancer's immediate lead at the beginning of the first period was never relinquished during the next 32 minutes of water polo, with Whittier only managing to get within two goals at most. The Lancers outscored the Poets in every frame of the match and saw the most goals dent the twine during the second and third quarters, which saw six CBU goals each.

Logan Puhl and Caleb Teraoka finished the first game of the day with a brace each, while Toring Stanley and Teraoka led the team with a pair of assists.

CBU 21 - BIOLA 12

The final game of the first day of The Joust was a showdown between the Lancers and Eagles, which saw CBU emerge victorious in an emphatic fashion. Bowden kicked off the scoring yet again, and Marcus Lodewyk was right behind him for an early lead. CBU would score six goals during the first period with six different scorers, showing off its deep bench. The Eagles came stronger in the second period and matched the Lancers at four goals to go into halftime trailing by four.

Biola came out strong for the third quarter and put away a trio of goals, but the Lancers found their footing and scored five times to pull away. The final frame of the day saw another six goals from CBU, with George Rice leading the way with a brace. Bowden finished the day with seven goals under his belt, while Teraoka and Toring both tallied a four-piece.

California Baptist will now turn its attention to the second day of The Joust on Saturday, playing against Fresno Pacific at 9:30 a.m. and Concordia University Irvine at 5:30 p.m.
