SANTA CLARA, CA--- The California Baptist men's water polo program pulled out their ninth win this season after taking down #13 Harvard on the University of Santa Clara campus. The Lancers came from behind to secure the 13-11 victory, improving their overall record to 17-8.
After falling behind in the first frame, California Baptist struggled to convert on offensive attempts to chip away at the Crimson's lead. The Lancer's defense worked overtime to keep the game close, limiting Harvard to six goals in the first half. CBU's offense came alive in the third quarter, denting the twine six times to take a healthy lead. The fourth quarter peaked in intensity for both squads, each finding the back of the net four times. However, CBU's two-goal lead from the third quarter would ultimately carry them into their ninth straight win this year.
Three Lancers secured hat tricks against the Crimson, including Alex Righetti, Andrea Nuzzo, and Toring Stanley. Logan Puhl tapped in with four assists and a field block, while Caleb Teraoka also played solid defense and tallied three steals paired with one field block. The Friday win avenges the Lancers against Harvard after CBU dropped their first game of the year to the Crimson.
California Baptist continues its stay in Santa Clara and will play in a doubleheader tomorrow against Brown at 9 a.m. and Long Island University at 1 p.m.
