Hauck Leads Lancers to First Road Win Against UCSD

LA JOLLA, CA--- The California Baptist women's soccer team earned their first road victory on Sunday evening after Kaylee Hauck's second goal of the season secured a 1-0 win over UC San Diego. The Lancers move to 3-3 on the season, while the Tritons move to 1-4 on the year.

"I am really proud of our team's heart and grit today," said Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "Playing on the road against a team that did not play on Thursday is a big challenge, but our team rose to the occasion."

UC San Diego jumped out to a quick start during the first 45 minutes of the match, knocking five shots and limiting the Lancers to just one. An encouraging halftime speech would lead to a much more productive second half for California Baptist offensively. Hauck's strike to the bottom right side of the goal in the 66th minute was a winner, putting the Lancers on the board and marking the squad's first road goal of the season. The junior's goal was her second of the season and the second this week after she put away one against San Jose State on Thursday. Hauck now leads the Lancers in goals, while Morgan Witz leads the squad in assists at two.

"We are getting better each day and seeing that translate in games. Kaylee made a heads-up play to get off a quick shot while the defenders were out of position, which deflected into the net. Our team defense was very good in finishing the game and getting the result," remarked St. Clair. "This was a gritty team win on the road against a tough opponent. We'll enjoy this tonight and get back to work to prepare for our next opponent on Thursday".

The Lancers will welcome San Diego on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. as the squad continues to prepare for Western Athletic Conference play, which is set to begin at the end of the month.
