RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University women's basketball suffered its first loss of the Western Athletic Conference slate this year, falling to Abilene Christian 71-55 at home on Saturday. The loss drops CBU to 3-1 in conference play, with ACU improving to 2-2. The Lancers are tied for second place on the WAC table with UT Arlington after the Mavericks were dormant on Saturday.
Khloe Lemon kept her hot streak going, finishing the game with a team-high 20 points, shooting 54.5% from the field and going 6-6 from the free throw line. The only other Lancer in double-figures today was fellow guard Nhug Bosch Duran, who scored nine of her 13 points in the fourth quarter whilst trying to will her team into a late rally.
Despite having to go without the conference's leading scorer, Peyton Hull, the Wildcats got a career-high effort from Meredith Meyers, who poured in 24 points on a very efficient 10-12 shooting. In all, 16 offensive rebounds for ACU and holding CBU to just 28.6% (6-21) from deep tipped the game in the Wildcat's favor.
The Lancers will make their first trip to Utah of the season next week, facing off against the Wolverines of Utah Valley on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Pacific in Orem. They'll return home for Saturday's dual against the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah. The weekend contest starts at 1:00 p.m. in the Fowler Events Center.
