Lancers Outlast Late Rally From Utah Tech To Secure a Perfect Weekend

ST. GEORGE - California Baptist University women's basketball grabbed another road victory, this time overcoming the Trailblazers of Utah Tech in St. George, 81-75. The Blazers trailed by as many as 17 in the fourth but clawed back to make it a possession game with less than a minute to go before Claudia Fiel and Nhug Bosch Duran sealed the victory with late free throws.

Khloe Lemon paced CBU with 24 points, including 10 in the fourth to help maintain the Lancer lead during Utah Tech's rally. Anaiyah Tu'ua continues to provide clutch plays for her team, adding 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and four blocks to the stat sheet. Grace Schmidt matched Tu'ua's 12 points and 5-8 shooting while also grabbing nine boards. Freshman CeCe Legaspi nearly secured her first career double-double but came up one point short with nine points and a new career-high 14 rebounds.

The teams battled to a fairly even first half, with CBU owning a 37-36 advantage at halftime. The Lancers would return after the break to completely dominate the third quarter, outscoring UT 23-9 and holding them to just 1-19 shooting (5.6%) during the 10-minute stretch. The Trailblazers flipped the script in the final frame, holding CBU to just 4-15 shooting from the field, but an 11-14 clip from the free throw line in the final quarter kept CBU ahead until the final buzzer.

The Lancers will have a week off as they are not on the schedule on Thursday but will have extra time to prepare for Grand Canyon's visit to Riverside next Saturday, the 22nd. Tipoff for that game is set for 1:00 p.m.
