STEPHENVILLE - California Baptist women's basketball fell in their penultimate regular season contest on Thursday night, as Tarleton took the contest convincingly, 75-44. The loss takes CBU out of the running for the second seed in the upcoming Western Athletic Conference tournament, as the Texans locked that up tonight.
Khloe Lemon was the only Lancer in double figures in the scoring column tonight, putting up 15 points in 30 minutes of work. Emma Johansson added four points and four rebounds, but her three blocks put her at 61 for the season, far and away the most in the conference, and the next closest player sits with just 32. Her 61 blocks and counting are the most by a single Lancer in the Division I era and more than the entire squad had a season ago.
The teams traded scores for the most part to open the action, reaching the four-minute mark in the first quarter at an 11-11 tie until the Texans closed out the first on an 8-0 run. They continued that trend in the second quarter, building that lead up to 14 before closing the half with an 11-point advantage at 34-23.
The Texans opened the floodgates in the third, outscoring the Lancers 26-12 on 61% (11-18) shooting from the field while holding CBU to just 5-16 in the same timeframe. TSU ran their lead up to as many as 34 in the fourth quarter before settling into the final score.
The Lancers now focus on Saturday afternoon's regular-season finale at UT Arlington. The Lancers and Mavericks will start the game tied in the conference standings at 9-6, with the winner claiming the three-seed in the upcoming WAC Tournament and some much-needed positive momentum.
