RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist baseball team righted its sails on Sunday afternoon with the final win against Air Force for a weekend sweep to improve their record to 7-9. In what was the most competitive game of the series, solid defense led the way for a 4-2 victory for the Lancers. The three-game sweep against the Falcons marks the first of the season for CBU.
After a quiet first inning, true freshman Chris Ramirez stepped up for the Lancers after cracking a hard hit to the shortstop, who bobbled the ball and allowed two Lancers to score. CBU would never relinquish the lead but was tested by the Falcons after Air Force managed to get on the board in the top of the fifth via a sacrifice hit.
Ahead by a lone run, Nicholas Dumesnil started the bottom of the sixth strong with a lead-off walk before Jake Brown also battled at the plate for a free base. Connor Ross drove in the pair with a strong double to the right wall for his fourth two-bagger of the year and his fifth hit of the week. The two insurance runs were enough to secure the sweep for the Lancers and set the squad straight as the season continues.
The last time the baseball program recorded a sweep was during the end of the 2024 season after the Lancers took three off Stephen F. Austin during a home Western Athletic Conference series. CBU will now take Monday off before gearing up for a midweek tilt against the University of San Francisco on Tuesday evening before hitting the road to compete against Power 4 Rutgers for the weekend series.
