SANTA CLARA, CA--- CBU returned to the court on Saturday afternoon, as their weekend in Santa Clara continued with a matchup against the UNLV Rebels. The rebels pulled off a sweep, sending the Lancers into the final day of the Santa Clara Mission Classic 0-2 for the trip.
The Rebels got themselves going early with clean offense to get themselves a five-point lead early on the Lancers. The deficit grew to double digits and would finally settle in a 25-15 victory for the Mountain West squad. The second set would be a similar script to the first, with the Rebels jumping out to the early lead and CBU attempting to play catch-up the rest of the way. The Lancers would put together a few scoring runs, but the deficit proved to be too severe, leading to a 25-13 win for UNLV and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was the most competitive set of the match as the Lancers came out swinging to gain a 3-1 lead. The insertion of Reese Reed and Simge Yuksel provided a spark for the Lancers as their energy proved to be contagious in the frame for CBU. Reed dished out all 13 of her assists in the period and had particular chemistry with Olivia Melton and Filippa Botcher, who received several dimes from the senior setter. CBU fell behind by four deep into the set but would capitalize on some UNLV errors to tie the match at 20 apiece. UNLV would score five of the final eight points to pull out the sweep.
NEXT: The Lancers will finish up their NorCal road trip tomorrow at 11 AM against Portland State.
