RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- For the second year in a row, California Baptist University had four players receive All-Western Water Polo Association honors, which were released Tuesday afternoon.
After graduating three of its all-conference players from last season, the Lancers reloaded for 2014 and had three new players make the WWPA honor roll. They were represented on the first, second, honorable mention and all-freshman lists.
Eric Carnohan earned the first-team selection for CBU after proving to be one of the team's primary offensive threats and vocal leaders. The senior utility nearly averaged two goals a game with 63 tallies in 32 games, which tied for a team-high. He also drew a team-best 49 exclusions and finished the year with 23 steals.
For the second season in a row, Joseph Moorman earned All-WWPA second-team honors after anchoring the Lancers defensively. The Riverside native followed up on a phenomenal freshman campaign with a super sophomore season after taking over the majority of the minutes in goal this year. He has compiled 382 saves in goal this year, putting him 33 blocks off the program's single-season record of 415 (set by current women's water polo coach Jonathan Miller in 2007), with a minimum of two games left in CBU's season. Moorman has already shattered CBU's single-season record of games with 10 saves or more, surpassing Miller's previous record of 20 from 2007, by hitting the double-digit mark in 27 games so far. He also has 57 steals and 33 assists in 2014.
Another sophomore, Brent Teraoka, picked up second-team honors after shouldering a heavy offensive load this year. Teraoka tied Carnohan for the team-high in goals with 63, while also finishing just one assist shy of the category leader with 29. He also has 27 steals and 12 drawn exclusions to his name and has handled the lion's share of CBU's sprint duties for the second year in a row, thriving under the role.
Preston Shore was named to the WWPA All-Freshman team after playing in 22 games for the Lancers. He has six goals, six assists, five field blocks, four steals and three drawn ejections coming in as a substitute for CBU.
CBU will look to keep its season going at the WWPA Tournament this weekend. The sixth-seed Lancers open with conference-rival Air Force, the 15th-ranked team and third-seed, Friday at 2 p.m. A win would move CBU into a game with top-seeded and sixth-ranked UC San Diego Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
