Gold Forces Winner-Take-All Finale

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – It will all come down to game five of California Baptist University's Fall World Series Classic after Gold forced a deciding game in a 1-0 win over Blue in Friday afternoon's game four at Totman Stadium.
Justin Montgomery led Gold to victory in one hour, 11 minutes, with a seven-inning shutout in the pitcher's duel. The sophomore allowed just two hits and struck out six to overshadow Andrew Bernstein's complete-game effort for the Blue team. Bernstein scattered six hits, two walks and struck out five in six full innings.
With both pitchers battling it out, the game was still scoreless through six innings. Ryan Knowles led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single and a sacrifice bunt from DJ Porter put him into scoring position with one out. Small ball continued for the Gold team, as Tyler Johnson grounded out to second base to move Knowles to third. Andrew Bash delivered the big blow of the game, as he scored Knowles with a two-out single.
Blue looked to answer back and got off to a promising start, thanks to a leadoff double from Alfredo Rodriguez. With one out, Luke Navigato moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. Unlike Gold, the Blue team could not come up with the clutch hit and Rodriguez was erased when he got caught in a rundown between third base and home.
Offensively, Bash and Knowles each logged two hits for Gold, which received a hit from Nick Plaia and Kash Mattson, as well. John Glenn was the other player, outside of Rodriguez, to pick up a hit for Blue.
Garett King and Logan Rinehart will take the mound to lead Blue and Gold in Saturday's Fall Classic finale Saturday at 10 a.m.
